Importance of Making A Will
Dr. G.K. Rangarajan, is Professor(retd) Dept. of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. He has executed a Will with the assistance of Adv. Sumedha Rao, Legal Consultant, www.recordmywill.com. Excerpt from his interview:
“Today a layperson is well aware about the benefits of writing a Will. But he or she still hesitates to execute a Will. In my case, it was the cordial relationship between my two daughters who are eleven years apart that made me feel that there will never be a need for a formal will. Adv Sumedha Rao, made me understand that, with real life examples, how situations can change, not because of any wrong action by the children but because of circumstances beyond their control. Writing a will stipulating quantum of share of assets to different relations, close or otherwise, has been in practice for quite a while but the personal emotions and reasons that went into the finalization could not form part of the document. It is in this context, the novel idea of independently recording the reasons for the will left behind by the deceased becomes praiseworthy.
I have now understood that by executing the document of the Will and recording the thought process at the time of writing, will surely reduce the frustration or disappointment among children who are given lesser assets than the others. As a process, it is indeed a path breaking idea providing an extra document to the bereaved family which aims at clarity. I am happy with the assurance that the whole process will be handled confidentially and will be viewed only after I am no more. My heartiest congratulations to the team behind this effort and I wish the project “Record My Will” a great success.”
